Ani’s 23rd Week of 8th Grade

Ani is 12 years 2 months old. (lesson 78) She read some in Elements of Language on misplaced modifiers. She dd a grammar exercise. She took a misspelled words test. She wrote a persuasive speech on why parents should allow their kids to read The Hunger Games. She watched a Discovery Streaming video on Texas (from a province of Mexico to a state of America).
Ani's 23rd Week of 8th Grade

She read some in her US History book about Texas’s path to becoming a state. She did a page in her History and Geography Workbook. She did two lessons of Teaching Textbooks Algebra I. (lesson 79 and review 8) She went over the compositions she has done over the course of the first half of 8th grade and analyzed what she has done well and what she need to improve on. She edited her speech. She watched a Discovery Streaming video on the Mormon trek west. She read a section in her US History book on the Mormons and the Forty-Niners. She was especially amused to be learning about the early Mormons since she’s been learning about them since birth. An enrichment idea in the lesson manual was to research to learn more about Mormon beliefs, Joseph Smith, and Brigham Young. She said she’ll wait until Sunday to do that. She watched BrainPop videos on Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. She read a section in Astronomy on the inner planets and we discussed it.

She did a lesson of Teaching Textbook Algebra I. (test 80) She took her fourth set of tests. She got a 98% in grammar, 97% in spelling, 88% in reading, 91% in history, 96% in geography, 96% in science, and 81% in vocabulary.

She read some in her US History book about the Missouri Compromise. She did a page in her History of Geography Workbook. She brainstormed how to make a scale model of the solar system. Cameron’s Ninth Week of 4th Grade

Cameron is 10 years, 6 months old. (lesson 29) He went over multiplying two-digits by one-digit. He did a page in Calvert Math and a page in his math practice book. He did a lesson in Sequential Spelling I. He read a chapter in I Got a D in Salami. He did typing and handwriting copywork. He went over his reading flash cards. We went over vivid word choices in compositions. He read seven pages in Robinson Crusoe and we discussed it.

He did a lesson in Grammar & Usage on being verbs. We talked about how it’s more “expensive” to feed meat eaters and about the loss of energy as food is passed through organisms. I read a page in Science to him. He did a science activity page. (review 3) He went over what he’s learned in math the last few weeks. He did a page in Calvert Math. He did a lesson in Sequential Spelling I. He read half a chapter in I Got a D in Salami. He did typing and handwriting copywork. He went over his reading flash cards. He wrote a composition about a trip to Ledo’s. He reviewed what he has done in reading, history, geography, grammar, and science. He did a page in Maps*Globes*Graphs.

Fritz’s 31st Week of 1st Grade

Fritz is 5 years 9 months old. (math lessons 36 and 37) He went over solid shapes, faces, and vertices. He did four pages of Calvert Math and a two pages in his math practice book. (core lesson 118) He changed beginning, ending, and middle sounds of words to make new words. He reread Butterfly in Treasures and we discussed it. He did a reading work page. He learned how to identify the topic, main idea, and details of a story. He did a reading work page. He went over science words and did a reading work page. He learned about present and past tense. He did another reading work page. He went over his word wall words. He learned how to write g in Calvert Script. He wrote dog, log, go, and good in Calvert Script. He took a ow/ou words spelling pretest. He watched a BrainPop Jr. video on the solar system.

He read an Art Link in Treasures and we discussed it. He worked with -s, -ed, and -ing endings. He wrote some words with those endings. He categorized colors and patterns. He identified topic, main idea, and details in a paragraph. He did a reading work page. He went over his word wall words. He wrote j, jump, jet, A good dog can jump., and J in Calvert Script. He did a page in Writing Fun. He did a page in Calvert Speller. He watched watched a Discovery Streaming video on Cesar Chavez.

He did an explore activity in Explore Your World I. He worked with some rhyming words. (math review 4 and test 40) He did two pages in Calvert Math and a page in his math practice book. He took his second math test (96%). (core test 120) He took his sixth set of tests. He got all 8 words (6 regular and 2 bonus) correct on his spelling test.
Fritz's 31st Week of 1st Grade

He got a 91% on his reading test and a 95% on his phonics test. (math lessons 41 and 42) He learned about fractions. He did three pages of Calvert Math and three pages in his math practice book. He listened to a tall tale about Paul Bunyan and Babe the Ox and we discussed it. He added and took away ending sounds from words. He learned how to add -ed and -ing to words ending in a short vowel and consonant and words ending in silent-e. He did a reading work page. He went over his word wall words. He made an idea web about Babe the Ox and learned how to turn those notes into a paragraph. He went over the characters, setting, and events in Paul Bunyan. He learned to write U in Calvert Script. He did a page in Calvert Speller. I read three pages to him in his Science book and we discussed it. He did an experiment to see the three phases of water.

He read 9 pages in Robinson Crusoe and we discussed it. He read a story on the Olympics in A Child’s History of the World and we discussed it. He did the outline and an enrichment activity about it in his CHOW workbook. He played with sand, soil, and clay to see how well the different soils hold water. We compared the soils to biomes.

Fritz’s 30th Week of 1st Grade

Fritz is 5 years 8 months old. (math lessons 30 and 31) He learned about sides and vertices and how to make shapes with other shapes. He did two pages in Calvert Math and two pages in his math practice book. He did the on-line math games Space Scraper and Space Depot.

He wrote 16 words in Calvert Script. He took a spelling test (all six regular words correct). I read four pages in his Science book to him. He did a science activity page. I read The Land of Counterpane to him. (math lessons 32 and 33) He learned how to calculate perimeter and area by counting units. Adrian’s 30th Week of Pre-K

Adrian is 3 years 9 months old. (lesson 90) We talked about people in the world and how they speak different languages and do different things. He said he says agua instead of water even though it is Spanish (he does, quite consistently). He did a Path to Math activity identifying whether there were one or two pictures in the boxes.

She took a misspelled words test and got a new list of spelling words. She watched part of Ronald Reagan’s A Time for Choosing speech and we discussed it.

She read The Gettysburg Address in Reflections and we discussed it. She read some in her US History book on the Underground Railroad and did a page in her History and Geography Workbook.

She read Mary Turrell’s What It Means to be Colored in the Capitol of the US in Reflections and we discussed it. She watched a Discovery Streaming video on the women’s suffrage movement: gaining equality for women. She read some in her US History book.
